Two ways. The less accurate is to look closely at the object. If it twinkles even slightly, it is a star - if it shines with a steady light, it is likely a planet. On a very still night (atmospherically) it is hard to use this method. The more relable method is a telescope. It need not be large - a 60mm refractor will do. Stars still look like "stars" in any telescope, but planets resolve into tiny "discs" in a telescope.

Very likely it is one or the other. Where are you, where in the sky do you see it, and at what time?

Do you use wether or weather when i am asking weather or not someone can attend a fuction?

That is whether and you don't need to say "or not" because it is included in whether. Example: I asked him whether he could attend the function.

What year was Venus first discovered?

Since Venus can be seen with the naked eye, no one really knows who discovered Venus. Venus' beautiful color made it easy for ancient astronomers to find it in the night sky long before the invention of the telescope.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Venus is quite bright, so it was easily observed even in very primitive times. Some ancient cultures did not recognized it as a planet, but thought in terms of a "morning star" and an "evening star." The Venus tablet of Ammisaduqa, dated 1581 BC, shows that the Babylonians made detailed observations of Venus and understood that it was a single entity.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It depends on what you mean by discover. Because Venus is so bright, the first caveman who went outside at dusk or dawn surely noticed it. The ancient Greeks knew enough about it to know that it was different from other ''stars''. Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn were also known to the ancients. This probably includes among many others the Chinese, Babylonian, and early American cultures which were relatively sophisticated. Galileo in 1610 was first to observe that Venus had a visible disk and that it had phases like the moon so perhaps he could be considered to have discovered the modern Venus. Captain James Cook made observations of a ''Transit of Venus'' in 1776-1779.

How were the ancient greek able to observe venus and mars?

Venus and mars can get very bright in the sky, brighter than the brightest star. They were not using telescopes to look at surface detail, but they could observe their movements in the sky with time. They can be seen to move in relation to fixed stars over several nights due to their relative closeness and their orbits around our sun.

How are Venus's and mars visible together?

If the question is how it is possible to see both Venus and Mars in the same part of the sky on a particular night, the answer would be when Mars is at a point in its orbit that it is either about to go behind the sun from the Earth's perspective or it is emerging from "behind" the sun. Because Venus is closer to the sun than the Earth, we cannot see it late at night when the observer is peering outward in our solar system; the only times are around dusk and dawn when the observer is looking towards the sun but the sun's rays have not yet made the sky too bright to see Venus. This means that the only time we can see Mars and Venus simutaneously is if Mars is also in the direction of Sun. Therefore, if you want to see Mars and Venus at the same time, you have to find out when Mars is out during the early morning and evening and if Venus is also visible during that same time period. Hope this helps!

What is a Venus?

A venue is a place, it can be any place. Example: The Boston lawyer asked the judge for a change of venue, he felt his client could not get a fair trial in Boston. So a change in venue means the lawyer is asking that his trial be moved to a different city.

We were looking at Venus through binoculars and it seemed to be rotating and you could see black holes then really bright lights all over?

With binoculars, Venus would look like a very bright object. To see more detail, such as dark sports, you would really need a telescope.

Would Mars be considered the brightest planet in the earth's sky?

Mars is not the brightest planet in Earth's sky. As seen from Earth, Venus is the brightest planet. Venus orbits the sun one step inward from Earth, and Mars orbits one step outward. Venus gets slightly closer to us than Mars does, but the main reason Venus looks so bright is that its surface is covered with highly reflective clouds. Mars isn't the second-brightest planet either. Jupiter is. Jupiter is even farther away than Venus or Mars, but it's huge. A dozen planet Earths could fit side by side in front of Jupiter. Mars sometimes gets as bright as Jupiter. That happened last in 2003. But generally Mars exhibits a range in brightness as it and we orbit the sun. Mars can be as bright as the brightest stars (but not as bright as Venus, and usually not as bright as Jupiter). Or Mars can be relatively faint.
