How can you wash your carpet?

If you have experienced a water leak and the carpet is wet in the basement first determine if the carpet is glued down or if there is a pad underneath. If the pad is saturated it must be removed. If the carpet is glued down the water can be extracted thoroughly with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner to remove as much water as possible, and then you can place fans and a dehumidifier to completely dry the area. Be sure to remove any furniture from the wet area.

Dry the carpeting separately.

1. Place towels over the carpeting and walk over them to get the water to soak up into the towels. Replace with fresh, dry towels as they get wet.
2. Use a hairdryer and position it over the wet towels. Keep doing this until they are completely dry.

You can buy your own carpet cleaner from a store, or you can even rent one. If cleaning it yourself is to big a task, there are companies that will do it for you.
