∙ 14y agoThey were cousins: he was her fifth cousin, once removed to be exact. This means that they had the same great, great, great, great grandparents and that the were one generation apart. For example, your mothers cousin is your cousin, once removed. (So it wasn't too weird)
They knew each other by occasion, but they're relationship grew more serious after 16-year-old FDR asked 14-year-old ER to dance. Their common interests grew with their love, and when ER was 20, FDR gave her an engagement ring.
