Ferdinand Magellan diccovered Magellan's strait, a western route to get to the Spice Isles by sea. He sailed using the ship Trinidad but was killed during the Battle of Mactan (a newly discovered island in the Philipines)

Being the fist man to circumnavigate the world, he improved maps and voyages everywhere. He proved that the world was round, and that travel could be easier than a life-or-death voyage (despite the fact that he died).
