By dying on the cross and resurrecting He defeated Satan. Even though Satan is still active in today's world, he is a defeated foe and one day he will be cast into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20: 11-15)
After Jesus Christ returns at His Second Coming He will reign for 1000 years. After this 1000 year period all unbelievers, past, present, and future, will be raised from the dead and judged (all evil will be avenged)
As for vanquishing evil that will happen in two separate events. The first will happen at Jesus' Second Coming and then again after Satan is unchained and rekindles rebellion. Satan will then be cast into the Lake of Fire along with the unbelieving dead. This will end all evil.
