The ship's usage:
The Vikings' ships are made as replicas for both shipping and tourism. They are even used as tourist ferries. Eighteen different countries have succeeded making replicas of Viking longboats and even sailed them (Denmark with the most). The Vikings' fishing boats look a lot like modern fishing boats and row boats for the ol' fishin' holes. In fact, lots of old-styled ships are used in lots of urban cities, even in Hong Kong (not Viking longships, China uses small 'junk' ships). The Vikings did sail in enlarged canoes, but this time the awesome Eygptians would get the glory - they have been building canoe-like boats way before the Vikings did.
The ship's structure usage:
All Viking ship structures are the second main reason why sailing in the sea is safe (the first main reasons were related to the wreck of the Titanic). Almost all ships use the Viking ships' structure (or 'ribs' as the Vikings called it) from toy ships to motorboats to hand-made canoes to cruises, the boat's structure protects them all from sinking to the bottom. If the Vikings haven't built such a great ship structure, lots of sinking ship scoops would be on the news by now
The ship's sections' usage and sayings we still use today:
The ship's sail and mast affected today's world because the Vikings had both invented the folding mast (literally) and the first fibre sail (made of rags and bits of wool - today, we use man made fibres). The Vikings sat on chests with all of their belongings in them, creating the world's first luggages. The steering oar was on the right-hand or 'starboard' side of the ship. Sailors still use the name 'starboard'. Lots of sailing inventions are inveteed by the Vikings, which is odd, because all of this had been invented in less than 400 years of the Viking empire.
However, even though Viking attacks didn't influence the modern world a lot, but their ship structure is copied for quite a lot of modern boats (the Gokstad ship structure was the most commonly copied). Without the Vikings' ship structure being discovered in 1867, lots of ships would be sinking like the Titanic by now, from toy ships to cruises. We should remember the first astonishing breakthrough in 1867 , but even more importantly, the first Viking longboat that was made in 787 AD.
