Bishop tried to save JV from doom? Or himself? Did he really believe he was ever getting out of there? Did he just want a buddy or mentee to make him feel valued? Granted, an education helped pass time and keep him from wasting away, but did he really do him any favors by firing up his need for revenge? And what is JV's doom? Is it the physical/literal situation or his state of mind? Isn't ignorance supposed to be bliss? What if he hadn't escaped? Would we still view Bishop as saving him if he had to spend the rest of his life in prison?
It's a great story with A LOT of possibilities. First examine how you, as the reader, define the words "save" and "doom" as they relate to the story and characters. Once you define these terms you can narrow your search to the internal or external doom JV needed to be saved from. Overall, if you want the easy answer: by giving him knowledge... knowledge is power. With proper support and examples from the text, this answer will maybe, maybe, maybe get you a B on a paper. If it were me writing the paper I would argue whether or not JV was actually "saved" by Bishop's actions. Far more controversial and attention-holding than the Cliff's Notes.
In the novel "Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo, the bishop gives Jean Valjean silver candlesticks, which Valjean later steals. When Valjean is caught and brought back by the police, the bishop covers for him and tells the police that he gave Valjean the silver as a gift. This act of kindness and forgiveness by the bishop inspires Valjean to turn his life around and become a better person.
Jean Valjean gets released from prison on parole. He is shunned by everyone but a bishop. He steals the bishop's silver but the bishop lies to save him. Valjean's faith is restored and breaks his parole in search of a better life.
Bring Him Home is about Marius. Jean Valjean sings about him because he wants to save him from almost certain death at the barricades so that he can marry Cosette. It is a prayer to God (Valjean is very religious) to save Marius, even if Valjean has to die instead. It is testimony to Valjean's love for Cosette that he does so.
Jean Valjean goes to the barricades to protect Marius and ensure his safety because Marius is the beloved of his adopted daughter, Cosette. He risks his own life to help Marius escape and to save him from the impending danger at the barricades.
In "Les Miserables," an incident that took place at the Orion tavern was the confrontation between Marius and Thenardier, where Marius discovered the truth about his father's savior, Jean Valjean. This revelation reshaped Marius' perception of Valjean and led to the eventual resolution of the storyline.
No, in fact there is no truly BAD GUY in Les Mis, Javert just cannot see mercy, only the law, and he chases after Valjean.

The climax of Les Misérables, the classic literature novel written by Victor Hugo, is the following: At the barricades where Marius, Valjean, and Javert are all meeting.
The three eagles that rescued Frodo and Sam from the destruction of Mount Doom were Gwaihir, the Windlord, Landroval (Gwaihir's brother), and Meneldor.
