Dinosaurs survived using a variety of adaptations, just like modern animals do. The exact adaptations depended on a dinosaurs niche and predators.

For example, ankylosaurs had armor to protect them from predators. Sauropods had long necks that they could use to reach vegetation high in the trees. The carnivorous theropods often had powerful jaws to dispatch their prey.

The T-rex would feed but will rest often. Since not many animals wanted to attack it, it was safe from harm. Except for other T-rex's.
