Deposition of sediments are responsible for the rock layers. Weathering is responsible for breaking apart the rocks into smaller particles. Erosion is responsible for carrying those particles away.

Weathering and erosion both helped the formation of the Grand Canyon because they are a source of physical weathering. Erosion is the process of being eroded by wind, water or other natural agents. Since erosion involves being eroded by water and their was a river right there the river must have helped erode the grand canyon.
