February after the old Italian God Februus or Februa - a festival of purification

March after the Romas God of War - Mars

April from apirere, the Italian word to open, the opening buds of spring

May, this was originally the third month of the Roman Calendar.

June, named in honour of Juno

July named in honour of Julius Caesar in 44BC, the year of his assassination.

August, in honour of the first Roman Emperor Augustus

September, The name comes from Septem, 'seven'

October, the name comes from Octo 'eight'

November, the name comes from Novern 'nine'

December, the name comes from Decem 'ten'
