The Asian Elephant, also known as the Kowtow Beast, was much larger and stronger than it's African brethren. Though extremely similar physically now, the Asian and African decend from two extremely different creatures. The Asian elephant's DNA proves it is distantly related the Polar Bear of the Arctic. Unbelievably, the African elephant is actually a far distant cousin of the modern white-tailed deer. The climate and environment, as well as the predatory situations of the two animals has led them to look extremely similar in modern life, but extremely different millions of years ago.
There are only two species of elephants, the African elephant and the Asian elephant. There is some evidence that the African bush elephants and the African forest elephants are separate species, however, they both live in sub-Saharan Africa. Asian elephants live in South Asia and Southeast Asia.
