Well years ago it was celebrated with the carnival, the people would disguise like devils, or diablos cojuelos like they are called in Dominican Republic, there are another names like Macaraos, Lechones. But nowadays the government has separated the carnival form the independece day, there is a parade with people from the dominican army, airplanes and a parachute show. The president gives a speech and is a holyday.
They celebrate it just as how we do with the turkey and enormous feast and the gathering with the family and friends.
