Log off will already be on your start menu, on windows 7 there will be a button that says shutdown, next to the button will be an arrow, from there you can select the option to logoff.
there are numerous ways. one way is pressing ctrl+alt+delete together then clicking log off. or you can log off via the start menu you are wrong
In XP use start menu to log off, select log out or awitch user... ensure that you go back to the user password screen.
