in simple terms bronchodilators are going to relax the bronchi, increasing their lumen size. thus the person is going to be able to increase inspiratory and expiratory volume as the bronchi are more relaxed and thus more oxygen can flow in and out.
thus the FEV is also going to improve as they can get more air out due to the more relaxed bronchodilator.
in Asthma one disgnostic factor is that their FEV1 is reduced compared to their VC. Bronchodilators will improve this.
**NB: Bronchodilators will not have much of a significant affect on normal lungs, only in lungs of asthmatics, Bronchitis etc....
:)
Bronchodilator drugs affect the FEV and MVV measurements by shortening the time frame where one can take these measurements. It makes it much more difficult to test.
Diameter of the airways?
In general, athletes have trained to exhale quickly. (Oxygen loading only occurs during inspiration, and expiration serves mainly to rid the body of carbon dioxide, so athletes train to actively expire quickly. Their use of expiratory muscles assists in obtaining large measurements of FEV and MVV.) Due to the increased resistance of airways in an asthmatic, their FEV and MVV measurements are reduced for the same level of effort.

FEV 1 (%) will decrease as the airway radius is decreased. FEV 1 (%) is the amount of air that can be expelled from the lungs in one second during forced expiration. If the airway becomes smaller, then the resistance to airflow will increase and FEV 1 (%) will become lower.
Fevrier (fev-ree-ay)
Erv = FEV - TV
Hay - fev - er ------> 3
in a fev million years due to the sun going in to a supernove
'février' is abbreviated 'fev.' in French.
