Butterfleis pocess a long, tube-like structure that is rolled up like a spring when not in use. This structure is called the proboscis and is unrolled when feeding. Most butterflies eat nectar, soms species eat pollen.

Butterfly's have a straw like proboscis and get their food from the liquid nectar in flowers and also use it to drink water in droplets and puddles.
