The Celsius range from freezing to boiling is 100 (0 to 100). The Farenheit range from freezing to boiling is 180 (32 to 212). So the relationship of Farenheit to Celsius is 180/100 or 9/5 (for every one degree change in Celsius, Farenheit changes by 1.8 degrees). Because the ranges do not start at the same point, you have to compensate by sliding the Celsius range up to the point where C freezing = F freezing by adding 32. This produces the formula: (C x 9/5) + 32 = F
