Look at the model # of the compressor. Chances are it will have a number in the beginning that will be divisible by 6 but you divide by 12. The reason is that each ton of cooling provides 12,000 btu of cooling so the manufacturers put a number like 12 18 24 30 or 36 in the compressor model # which relates to the btu rating of the equipment being 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 ton respectively which are the typical size units in most moderately sized homes at least here in the northeast but a number like 60 is simply 5 tons.
