Dimples at the small of one's back are naturally occurring, and their presence is dependent on your pelvis's bone structure and your personal weight distribution, as well as amount of muscle present. If your body is predisposed to have dimples at the small of your back, they will be present when you are at a healthy weight for your height.

The dimples at the bottom of the back also known as the "eye's of venus" are in fact the depression where the sacrum (triangular fused spinal segments S1-S5) join the Illium of the pelvic girdle this joint is slightly inset from the more protruding borders of the sacrum and the illium thus creating the indent seen on the skins' surface.

If you are wanting to pierce your back dimples, it is a good idea to always have this done professionally. This can be done by a process called anchor piercing, where a small anchor is placed under the skin.

lower back dimples are genetic, and can only be DEFINED by exercise. on rare occasion athleticism has been known to cause them to appear. But they are otherwise genetic.

What is the phenotype of an individual with one allele for dimples and one for no dimples?

This would depend on whether the allele for dimples is dominant or recessive. If the allele for dimples is dominant and the no dimples allele is recessive then the phenotype of the individual would be dimpled. If the allele for no dimples is dominant and the allele for no dimples is recessive then the dimples will not be expressed. If these alleles are codominant then the dimples will be expressed but not as much as in an individual who has both alleles for dimples.
