Yes. "Near death" experiences do sometimes occur. Some have said that even when a person thinks he is about to die, he can have similar experiences (Depersonalization in Response to Life-threatening Danger, by Russell Noyes Jr and Roy Klette). Various conditions, such as oxygen deprivation or reduced blood flow, can also induce similar experiences.

Near-death experiences are sometimes cited as evidence of an afterlife, but there has been no report of a person who has actually died (brain death) communicating with the "other side". The experiences reported by those who have suffered near-death are inevitably coloured by the sociocultural context of the patient (Experiences Near Death: Beyond Medicine and Religion, by Allan Kellehear). This suggests that the Christian afterlife is experienced by Christians, but the Hindu afterlife is experienced by Hindus.

Usually you first start to panic and in your internal thoughts you keep repeating to yourself "I'm going to die" then suddenly, everything goes black. Then, you start to accept your fate and become utterly relaxed. You may see a warming light or just utter blackness, sometimes with mysterious voices.

I myself have had a near death experience and I have to admit that it was one of the most scariest and weirdest experiences of my life so far.

I have a bold theory on why people who are clinically pronounced dead and revived a few minutes later have vivid afterlife experiences. I believe that when shut down, for whatever reason, our brain actually stores data of the fact that it has shut down. I feel people who endure an afterlife "indulgence" during a few brief minutes were they have been pronounced dead, actually experience their sensation during a subsequent period of unconscious, although post-brain dead, were the brain will become aware of the fact it is functioning contradicting with its own memory of termination. This contradiction puts the brain in its very own fictional afterlife. This is because the brain thinks it has died and for whatever reason still has the privilege of independent thought. Then i bring up the fact that a large amount of the people with reports of personal nda(afterlife)i(induced)e's are religiously superstitious in some way. I also do not want anyone to comment with an example of a nonreligious nda(afterlife)i(induced)e because it can be explained with this: people who are extremely religious keep a summery consideration within themselves of their religious morals and standards guiding their daily decisions, views, and ideas, and affecting their brain as a whole. Then when their brain is pickled in an universal paradoxical situation it allows the one part of themselves which incorporates an answer for this very dilemma to fill the gap and take action in an explanation. For a nonreligious person, they could be considering the possibility within themselves that a god could exist, which in a smaller percentage of people, however, could explain this phenomenom. You might ask why the brain would want to create this false depiction for people. Well why can we not control our own dreams. Why can we not adjust our own emotions to fit appropriate scenarios as we please. And why can we detect irony, simplism, and originality in jokes without drastic personal analyzation. This last sentence may have seemed a bit off topic, but review these past few lines of poetic dramatization, and realize the true potential of the subliminal mind. This is one realization in which the majority of people today fail to make. I boldly believe that all connections between people, nature, memory stained entities and physical "evidence" of the greater good inhabiting, miracles, nde's, and answered prayers, which are universally believed to ENSURE the presence of a greater power in the creation of the universe and life, can all be explained in each and every one of our subliminal minds. We see what we want to "see".

Anybody can presume that death is around the corner and consider that they had a near death experience. But in reality, it may not be a near death experience. Today you may sleep at night and you may believe that you are going to die and you may create an experience for the world which you dreamt about. Therefore, the belief in this near death experience cannot be justified, there may be some sense to it but birth and death are Divine, and trying to make them magical or mystical is only complicating our belief in birth and death. Rather we should concentrate on what is death, what happens after death, where does the one who was alive go after death, rather than worrying about near death experiences which is not death but just imagining something out of an experience.
