You enter the Farmville game by going through Facebook or by going to Zynga's Farmville website.

To play Farmville, follow the in-game instructions for new players. You will be shown that you need to plow land into plots using the plot tool (a hoe icon), then to plant the field, and later to harvest the field. Every seed tells you how long it takes to grow (anywhere from 2 hours to 4 days). Each game level opens new possibilities for which seeds you can buy; others are locked until you reach certain levels.

At the same time, you will be given opportunities to get buildings. Players call these "buildables" because the player must build each one by getting nails, boards, and bricks. These can be received through Gifts, or through the Facebook Wall.

As you build, you'll need animals to put into the buildings. About once a day, you "collect" from animals whether they are inside or outside of the buildings.

As a "social game", you'll need to find "neighbors". People are found on the Forum for Farmville. You "invite" them to be your neighbor. You must have 10 neighbors to do your first expansion. You also need neighbors so you can go to their farms, help do tasks, and get rewarded with eggs, animals, feed, and coins.

The game has evolved a LOT in the last year. So it is difficult to cover everything here. Some aspects of Farmville (some things to do in the game) include:

• plow ground/fields
• buy and plant seeds
• harvest what you planted
• As you harvest, you gain Mastery of each seed
• Plant more seeds; get more masteries completed
• Share harvested bushels with other players
• Buy and build a stable for horses
• get horses to put into the stable
• upgrade stable (more building) and then get more horses
• Get a Stallion from inside the game and put him with the mares in the stable
• Collect from stable once a day
• If you get a baby horse, share one with neighbors
• Buy and build a nursery
• get baby cows and baby horses to put into nursery
• upgrade nursery (more building) and then get more babies to put in
• Collect from nursery once a day
• If a baby grows up from Nursery, share one with neighbors
• Buy and build Dairy buildings for grown cows plus 1 bull (build up to 5 dairy buildings)
• get grown cows and put into Dairy
• upgrade dairies and get more grown cows to put in
• Collect from each Dairy once a day
• If you get a baby horse, share one with neighbors
• Buy trees
• Collect coins from trees once a day
• Buy and build one or more orchards
• Put trees into orchards
• Collect coins from orchards once a day
• Reach Mastery levels on each tree
• Buy and build a bee hive
• Collect bees for hive
• Collect coins from bee hive
• Buy and build a Feed station
• Re-fill feed every day or so
• After 1 day, get a new animal from the feed station
• Buy and build a specific holiday building (example Haunted House, Halloween)
• Collect items from holiday building
• Share these items; you keep some; some you must get from neighbors
• At the end, redeem your 'items' for an animal or whatever (example: Halloween gave candy corn; candy corn was redeemed for animal or other things)

This does not include all the features and tasks.

In addition to buying, building, getting, and sharing, you also can re-arrange and decorate your farm anyway you want. Some people get very creative and artistic. Other players just play to plant and harvest.

One CAUTION: All Social Networking games are addictive and time-consuming! Don't ignore school, homework, family life, or real life activities; you can literally spend a half a day playing this!
