Best Answer

really depends on which fabric. But in general, when printing onto a fabric, you would use 'die sublimation printing'

This is where ink is printed onto one surface, then transfered to the fabric by pressing (and heating?) the two media together... the ink on the first media turns to gases, and die's the fabric.

Well that's how it was explained to me ;)

According to Color How Many Types Can Pure Cotton Cloth be Divided Into?

According to color, pure cotton can be divided into plain cotton, white sheeting, yarn-dyed fabric and print fabric. Plain cotton is dyed by one single color, and there is no pattern. White sheeting is the fabric which treated with bleaching. Print fabric is the fabric which treated with printing process. The pattern is clear and color is bright in front while fuzzy and dark on the other side. Yarn-dyed fabric is called yarn dye in Japan. Most fabric is dyed after piece goods, while yarn-dyed fabric dyes the cotton yarn first and then spinning. We often see some fabric such as plaid fabric and chambray are all belonged to yarn-dyed fabric. Actually, jean also belongs to yarn-dyed fabric, and it is usually dyed from indigo warp yarn and natural color weft yarn.

What is the difference between pigment print and reactive print?

In the technique of Pigment printing all the pigments are applied on the surface of the fabric usually, so there effects are mostly one sided, the other side used to have the shadow or the impression of the print. In pigment printing only one side is fully printed the other side just may have a little impression but not have the same printing design. In reactive printing method fabric has the same printing on the both sides as the dye particles in the print paste make a bond with the fiber. This method is best fit when we need same printing on both sides of the fabric.
