Lortone tumbler barrel lids are very cleverly designed and simple to operate. Open the barrel by unscrewing the black nut, remove the aluminum lid (may be quite sticky and require gentle prying with a screwdriver), and remove the inside rubber-lined lid. Fill about 3/4 full of rocks, add water to just about under the top layer of rock, and add the recommended grade and amount of grit. Ensure that the inner lip of the barrel is both clean and dry, replace inner rubber-lined lid, seating tightly! Cover that with the aluminum lid, tap it down with a rubber mallet, all the way, even all around, and spin the nut on until it's finger-tight - don't go crazy or you'll strip the nut. The quantities of rock and water I suggest are general; experience is the best teacher. You don't want the barrel too full or little grinding will take place, and you don't want too little rock either. Too little water will result in a too-thick slurry; you're aiming for a nice heavy cream consistency after a couple days of tumbling. Rest assured that this ain't rocket science, you'll have to work hard to really screw it up.
An abrasive would use a harder material, such as sandpaper, diamond dust, or silicon carbide, to polish other rocks. These materials are able to scratch and wear down the surface of the rocks being polished, creating a smoother and more polished finish.
When a candle is put under a tumbler , the flame goes after somtimes . This is all because all the oxygen present in the tumbler has been used for burning.

Build a base out of two by fours, to save weight, and then cut an access door in the side of the drum. You will need to buy two hinges for the door and attach them with nuts and small bolts. Then get a simple lock to keep the door closed when you rotate it. You will also need to put turning handles on the ends of the barrel, to turn and rotate the tumbler.

USUALLY the key and tumbler in this model is held in by a supporting pin on the front or the back of the key and tumbler. Push the pin in with a small screwdriver or an awl. the pull it out. Put the new key and tumbler in the same way push it in until the pin locks in place then turn the key to see if it works. If it works you are finished!!
