if by releasing means hand brake ?

or

when you want to install new brake pads and the new ones are too thick

there is a small tool about 8 dollars at autozone look like a small cube with that your life can be easier just look for the dowels that will mach your rear brakes pistons notches and turn you will see your pistons moving inward and you will have clearance for the new ones and you dont have to mess with the release hand brake cable at all
