there is a small tool about 8 dollars at autozone look like a small cube with that your life can be easier just look for the dowels that will mach your rear brakes pistons notches and turn you will see your pistons moving inward and you will have clearance for the new ones and you dont have to mess with the release hand brake cable at all

I'm thinking about what you said, and I release probably you don't have emergency brake on, it could be something broken on the rear brake hardware, So you have to pull your tires off and check the brake springs and check emergency brake cables under the truck,
Remove the rear tire and wheel. Remove the brake spring from the brake assembly. Remove the brake pads. Reverse the process to install the new brake pads.
