If it is like the older 4cyl motors, you would need to take off the timing belt which drives it...not that small of a job The Cavalier 2.4L DOHC does not have a timing belt. It has a timing chain that circles inside that flat cover on the passenger side of the engine. It goes around the crankshaft gear, water pump gear, exaust gear, intake gear, in that order. Its not hard if you know how to do it,BUT you MUST know how to do it. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR MISTAKES... So ask people and study.
