Dentists, since an over-reactive gag reflex is common while brushing the tongue, suggest practice. It may be unpleasant, but if you just try to brush more of the back of the tongue ever time, pushing your gag reflex to your max, it should reduce its sensitivity while normally brushing.
Im no doctor, but I once read that if you take your finger, and try to center it in your mouth, and slowly move it farther in your mouth until you feel like you want to well.. gag haha
