You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files. You cannot uninstall Windows Vista. However, you can change the code that starts the operating system (often called the master boot code), and then remove Windows Vista from your multiboot system and return to Windows XP or Windows 2000. You will need your Windows Vista installation disc for this procedure. * Before you begin, back up your programs, files, and settings. Removing Windows Vista is an advanced procedure that could result in losing information stored on your computer. For information about backing up data, search Help and Support for "back up." # Insert the Windows Vista installation disc. # Click the Start button , click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. # Type [DVD drive letter]:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force and then press ENTER. For example, if the DVD drive letter is F, type f:\boot\ bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force. # Eject the Windows Vista installation disc. # Restart your computer. Your computer will start in the previous version of Windows that you have installed. # Delete Windows Vista files and folders, such as the Program Files, Users, and Windows folders, manually. * You can also remove Windows Vista by reformatting the partition where it is installed, but do this only if that partition is not the boot partition. Reformatting the boot partition might make your computer unable to start. You can then install XP by using the onscreen instructions provided, via booting from the CD/DVD Guides to uninstalling Windows Vista taken from Windows Help and Support

You will have to reformat your hard drive and then install XP. My question is why? Vista is superior to XP in almost every way. You cannot name one thing in XP that is superior to Vista. But I could name lots of things in Vista that are superior to XP. Vista is more secure, has a much better search function, and is more stable, just to name 3 things. The only negative with Vista is that is requires lots of RAM. 2 GB in Vista Premium and 1GB in Vista Basic. If you upgraded and XP computer to Vista just add some RAM and I think you will soon forget XP. After running Vista for over a year I would never ever go back to XP. ---- For complete instructions on how to remove windows vista and reinstall windows xp check www.removevista.com

RadioShack you are wondering if it is possible to downgrade from windows vista basic edition to windows XP on your present computer?

You can not simply downgrade to Windows XP from Windows Vista. If you want to completely remove Windows Vista in favor of XP, you will have to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS from scratch. Windows XP will not install on top of an existing Vista installation.
