How do you write a superhero story?

Here are some things to think about when writing superhero stories:

• Make the character believable - nobody is perfect! When Superman was invented, he was perfect, so the writers had to go back and invent kryptonite in order to give him something that might make him fail. Give your character some realistic flaws or worries - Spiderman has low self esteem, Batman has to hide his secret identity, and the X-Men have to deal with prejudice.
• Make the character vivid - know all about your hero! Describe him or her in such vivid detail that the reader knows how they look, how they act, how they speak, how they think, and what they want out of life.
• Avoid the cliches - don't use superpowers that have been "done to death," or which obviously belong to a recognized superhero invented by someone else. Batman is a good superhero because he is NOT super; he is an ordinary man who has trained his body to become a weapon.
• Make the reader care - give your superhero some sort of personal conflict to overcome, so he can grow and mature during the story. Readers have a hard time liking a character who never grows or learns anything.
