It is said that Nietzsche created his whole philosophy to response for Schopenhauer. Schopenhauer's main idea was that life was full of pain and suffering; the only reason why humans and other lifeforms could carry through life was because they had "will to live". Nietzsche took these ideas but he changed them radically. He thought that life really was full of pain suffering but it was the reason why there was also positive feelings; all the negative things were just a way for a man to rise high and to overcome him-/herself. The reason why this happens is because humans (and all the other living things as well) have "will to power", a will to reach as high as possible. "Will to power" is naturally strong in humans and that's why they have during the years developed higher than any (other) animal.

Both Schopenhauer and Nietzsche also invested aesthetics. Schopenhauer found art was a way to escape all the pain and suffering life brought to us. For Nietzsche, art also had a special place in the world but rather than escaping life, it was a way to praise life

What is nietzsche's will to power?

Nietzsche's "will to power" is a metaphysical concept which was created to oppose Schopenhauer's theory of "will to live" and Darwin's evolution theory. Nietzsche thought that all the animals and other organic things, including humans, didn't just try to stay safe and alive all the time but they took many risks that could cost their lives like waging a war. "Will to power" is individual's desire to expose its influence or desire to release its internal energy; exposing influence is seen when a stronger individual subordinates a weaker one, and releasing internal energy is displayed e.g. in art. According to Nietzsche, all the active force's of universe can be reduced to "will to power" including moral which was created to build up a society where the creators of the moral themselves were the ruling class.

What were the basic tenets of philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer?

Schopenhauer believed that life is necessarily present for the subject that perceive it, therefore life is an idea. What governs this idea is "will". Will is the desire and wanting to overcome everything. Schopenhauer's magnum opus is: "world as presentation and will" in which he articulates his philosophical thoughts.
