Directly, it doesn't. It is less toxic than alcohol, nicotine, or caffeine. It is not possible to overdose on cannabis. If one were to try, they would fall asleep before getting anywhere near a lethal dose.
Indirectly, it could kill in the same way tobacco does: Lung cancer, emphysema, etc.
