Finder works just like the Start button on a Windows PC.
If the iMac is listed under Devices you can select it, and the hard disc will be listed in the finder window. You can then drag the hard disc icon back into the Devices section. Although there is no real need to have such access to the hard disc with Mac OS X. Alternatively you can select Computer from the Desktop/Finder's Go menu (Shortcut: Shift Command C) which should open a finder window with the hard disc shown.
