Essentially, it is the use of lines that act as rays to create the illusion of space and dimension. Lines direct to eye and shading as well as the use of color further creates the looks of dimension.

The horizon line is used as a separation between land and sky; distance is measured from this point in addition to the vanishing point, the point on the horizon in which the lines come together, appearing to vanish or disappear.

The length of lines, whether curved, straight, diagonal, horizontal, vertical, etc. are also of importance ad they are in reference to horizon with the nearer objects being more visible and therefore larger as they are nearer and not as shaded unless there is limited lighting/a source of shade such as a roof or a tree.

It is the relation of objects overall; ultimately, line and shading create forms which create dimension. Color can be used to brighten areas and attract the eye also, but it is the value scale of varying hues which allows these forms to take shape and take up space, creating the illusion from a flattened canvas.

A.It is a technique based on geometry that tricks the eye into seeing depth. B.It uses a variety of colors to make objects seem to "leap" off the canvas. C.It has such thick layers of paint that it actually becomes three-dimensional. ... Linear perspective uses all of the above to help a flat canvas look three-dimensional

What three can be measured by three dimensions?

Often these are three linear dimensions. Normally these are the dimensions in mutually perpendicular directions, but they need not be: they can be in any three directions which are not coplanar. Depending on the context, the linear dimensions are called:Length;Breadth or width; andHeight or depth. Also, the answer may comprise measure one distance and two angles: as might be done to locate an object in astronomy.
