Broadcast news is big business these days and television networks pour huge amounts of money into it. A typical news broadcast is produced at a studio with an anchorman and several news presenters. Feeds from other locations are available, using cables links to other studios. A broadcast from a London studio might take a feed from a New York studio for example. The connection between the two is bi directional, so the New York presenter can see and hear the London presenter. For location work, satellites are used. A planned event will typically use an outside broadcast truck which is a full studio on wheels. The crew will include camera operators, director, vision mixer, sound engineer and production assistants. The output from the OB truck will use the satellite link to get to the main news studio. For unplanned events, a crew that may be no more than a reporter and cameraman will also use satellite or wireless high speed telephone links to obtain the link back to the studio. The principles are similar to domestic satellite broadcast and cable distribution although data rates are higher and additional facilities are employed. It's expensive but broadcasters are willing to invest to get the best and latest images of current events.
