When we receive the Eucharist, we think about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us when he was crucified on the cross. That is how the relationship with you and Jesus Christ is strengthened.

.

Catholic AnswerThe Most Holy Eucharist is the actual Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As such we are fulfilling His Command in St. John's Gospel (6:54-56ff) "Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed.. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him..."

.

So by receiving the Most Holy Eucharist, we receive into us Our Blessed Lord. This is a great mystery of God that we receive in holy faith. Some of the effects that the Catechism discusses at length include:

.

-cleanses and separates us from sin

-commits us to the poor

-communicates the mystery of the communion of the Holy Trinity

-establishes the community of believers

-is a foretaste of the future life

-is growth in Christian life

-is an increase of the grace received in Baptism

-is a source of conversion and penance

-is spiritual food

-actually transforms man through Christ

-unites with Christ

-unites Christians

-unites us with the heavenly liturgy

-and in a real way, we participate in Christ's sacrifice

What does the eucharist mean for Catholics?

The purpose of the Eucharist is to make us united with Christ spiritually since we no longer see him in the physical and visible reality of life. If Christ is present now I guess we would not need the Eucharist because His living presence would suffice all our lack. So, it is the Eucharist that builds that inner spiritual craving and intimacy in us with the Lord. . Likewise, it is the Eucharist that will lead us toward the Kingdom where he Himself reigns. It will be our earthly foundation an escatological reality.

God cares that we are coming closer to him, so if our conversion brings us closer to God, then yes, he cares. Passover and eucharist?

The Old Testament Foreshadows the New Testament. The Passover foreshadows the Eucharist in the following ways. During Passover the Jewish people were commanded by God to slaughter an unblemished, male, lamb. This lamb's blood, when smeared over the doorway of a house, protected that family from death. For the Eucharist Jesus is the sacrificial lamb, unblemished with sin. In order for the Gates of Heaven to be re-opened to us, we needed eternal satisfaction for our sin (Adam and Eve's sin). Because Christ is God, and He died for us, He provided that eternal satisfaction. In the Eucharist we receive that eternal sacrifice in the Eucharist in a non- bloody manner.

i don't know about 'divine' revelation, but during the taking of bread and wine God reveals to you how much of a sacrifice Jesus made for us, and makes us think about what we can give to God if he's given us the greatest sacrifice of his son. :)
