The sound structure of elephants is very advanced. See, they can hear infrasound (i think it's called that) which is basically low rumbles that they can somehow send to each other. They can send them over long distances too, kind of like telephone calls. We can't hear them, by the way. Apparently African elephants can also detect the calls and foot stomps of other elephants through underground vibrations.
Elephants hear through their ears. Elephants ears have infrasound capabilities for long range communication.
An elephant's hearing is far better than a human's for many reasons.
Elephant ears are very large, particularly those of the African elephant. They help funnel sounds into the ear canal that wouldn't otherwise ordinarily find their way.
But an elephant's inner ear is better equipped to handle an array of sound sources than the human ear. For example, they can hear faster and slower sound vibrations than humans can.
Many sources and studies have documented that elephants use a low, slow sound to communicate over long distances. Humans cannot hear this sound with their naked ear, but elephants can use it to communicate with each other up to 50 miles away.
Man is not capable of hearing something 50 miles away except for possibly the most extreme circumstances that would be hard to identify.
Elephants hearing is advanced they can hear low rumbles that they send to each other over long distances. We can't hear these low rumbles.
I figure about twenty, but that is just an estimated guess.
I'd say about 3/4 to 1 mile away.
maybe a mile away
they have different hearing range
a lynx can hear a prey from 65 metres away
2 miles
Elephants, fish, bats, dolphins, and newborn babys can hear the sounds.
Up to 6 miles away? Yes, it is up to 6 miles away to hear an adult lions roar.
An elephant can use a low sound that is so low we can't even hear it
they funnel in the sound waves from the enviroment
A surprisingly long distance as elephants are able to generate very low frequency sounds (i.e. infrasonic, frequencies that humans cannot hear at all) that can travel through the ground for many tens of miles and still be heard by other elephants.
hi jess
I'd say about 3/4 to 1 mile away.
From 10 meters away .
A mouse has small ears but their small ears can help them hear things that are quite far away.
200 kHz
"Hear" They can HEAR something up to 5 miles away
a lynx can hear a prey from 65 metres away
almost instantly.
ultrasonic
25 miles away
