Most, if not all states have a Commercial Driver's manual much like the one you might use for your car license, but much thicker. That manual, and your regular car drivers manual, should have all the information needed to pass your written test. Go to your driver's license exam station and ask for the CDL Manual. There is also a road test and you must be familiar with a truck and everything about them to take the road test. Some states require that you train with a truck driving instructor before you're allowed to test. Some only require you to pass it before getting your CDL. Ask when you get the CDL manual.
No
At a DMV office or from their website.
First you should visit your state's DMV and get a copy of the CDL manual. You will be taking several tests specific to this manual so you should study it well. You may purchase a practice test online if you feel this would be helpful, although it is not required. When you feel comfortable knowing the material, revisit the DMV and take the test.
You can obtain your CDL manual from your local CDL test centers, or download online from the DMV website of your state. Even though a few websites offer a sample practice questions, it would be wise to study the manual and prepare for any question.
