Now, through bone-conductive technology, we are actually able to transmit sound through the human's bones into their inner ear.
This process was approved by the FDA and Sonitus Medical came out with the first hearing aid that was able to achieve this without the need of surgery. What happens is that the user wears a small microphone on their weaker ear. This mic picks up the sounds on that side of the persons head and wirelessly transmits it to a type of retainer that the user wears in their mouth. This device receives the signal and sends small vibrations through the molars and jaw towards the inner-ear on the healthy side. Once the vibrations get to the inner ear they are transferred in our minds as sound and the user is able to experience true hearing without the use of their bad ear. It really is remarkable.
