Odysseus, though he is supposed to be the hero, is arrogant and bloodthirsty. He goes to war with Troy, despite the fact that the Trojans offer no real threat to Ithaca, essentially on a whim. After the war, he insults Poseidon, sacks cities for no reason, and is generally a poor commander with little to no regard for his troops. ALL of them die and it takes him 20 years to get back home. For example of his terrible leadership is exhibited when, despite the repeated pleas of his men, he declines to leave Circe's island and stays there for months despite the fact that she had turned all of them into boars. He also gets them into bad situations repeatedly because he is greedy, such as when he and his men are trapped by Polyphemus. Then, when he comes home, he does so in secret and kills all of the men in his house. Even if this could be justified (after all, they did say they were going to kill him), he then proceeds to have the maids who were supposed to be in romantic relationships with the men he had just killed (who were his slaves, by the way, in case you were wondering) executed based on the say-so of one person of questionable impartiality. This, in addition to having abandoned his kingdom and family in the first place, and cheating on Penelope, who was faithful to the end, at least three times.
