The standard protocol treatment for lymphedema is called either Complex decongestive therapy or manual decongestive therapy. It is a very very gentle medical massage that moves the fluids from the effected limb to areas where the good lymphatic system can pick it up and remove it from the body. Subsequent to that, the patient must wear compression garments of wraps to help holding the swelling down and to keep it from getting as bad as it was.

What is the normal lymphedema treatment?

Lymphedema is treated using compression pumps and compression hosiery. The hosiery goes over the afflicted limb, and the pump pressurizes the hosiery. This compresses the limb, and causes the fluid that has built up in that region of the body to dissipate. Here's a link with more info on the subject:http://vitalitymedical.wordpress.com/2009/07/31/lymphedema-treatment/
