Soccer is not the original football. The first ball game to be called football was "Shrovetide football" played in medieval England. Similar games were played in other European countries under different names from their native languages. This included Italy"Calcio", France "La Soule", Ireland "Caid" and other autonomous regions of the UK including Wales "Cnapan", Scotland "Ba" and Cornwall "Hyrlîan". It was from these games all later forms of football evolved including American football, Canadian football, Australian Rules football, Gaelic football, Association football (soccer), Rugby Union football and Rugby league football.
