Tangled is different from the original Rapunzel story in many ways.
- Rapunzel was originally the daughter of commoners- her status as a princess was a new concept.
- Rapunzel falls in love with a prince- Disney, already having her as a princess, replaced the prince with a commoner and a thief.
- Though Rapunzel's hair is unnaturally long in all the stories, and in some, even has magical properties, the idea of it making people young and healing is something Disney came up with.
- Basically, other than Gothel kidnapping her, her name being Rapunzel, her hair being super-long, and a man climbing her tower and falling in love with her, the entire storyline is invented by Disney. The original story has no floating lanterns, no chameleon, no epic journey, no thief.
