First being, i guess the greeks were very good at making a deal :) and second and more seriosly its because of their surrounding locations and the small seas sperating them. Greece was next to africa asia and europe all connected though small sections of water from the ocean so trading was one of their main sources for maney and one of the many reasons they were one of the top countries in the world when the world was ancient at least -.-
