Do you mean how long do you have before you can report abuse to the authorities? I know from experience (in the state of Washington, at least) that you only have as long as physical evidence of the abuse (bruises, cuts, scrapes, etc) last. I don't know why this information isn't taught to more domestic abuse victims. They told me it was because otherwise anybody could get their sig. other arrested for abuse. The example they used was that then my husband could say that I hit him in the head with a frying pan. That made sense to me. If you are being abused, please, call the police and report it while you still have marks on you.
My husband kicked me in the stomach while I was pregnant, causing me to have a miscarriage. I am hoping to give some meaning to my child's life by helping others leave abusive situations. Please help me give meaning to my child's life and report your abusive partner while you still have marks on you. Thank you.
AS far as I know if this kind of problem or case, it will stay open inside the police department. Names will be put in, the one who do the abusing. And if something happen to the person like getting hurt from beating or worst, that case will be more updated.
