Usually two weeks, it takes that time for the swelling to go down, at that point you can change to a smaller diameter ring.
-Sometimes it will take longer for the swelling to go down, depending on how much you play with it, how often you clean it, what you use to clean it, and how you clean it. Also, it would be better to not change the size until all the pain goes away, changing the size of a piercing too early can cause an infection. Other then that, 2 -3 weeks until proper lip ring change.
Healing times vary from person to person so it is really hard to give a single person a defining answer. Typically Lip piercings take about 6 to 8 weeks to heal properly. If you decide to change it sooner you have the possibility of creating really tiny tiny tears on the tissue that is healing. This happens when threads on the jewelry end catch on the healing tissue. Your best bet is to wait 6 to 8 weeks and if you are unsure if its ready to be changed or not, go back to your piercer and ask them. They should be able to look at it for you and give you an estimate of when you should be able to change it based on the time that you had gotten it done.
You need to heal the piercing, this doesn't happen in a couple of weeks but over several months. You need to realize that you are trying to get your body to build skin, this is not a quick occurrence. The body takes time to truly heal piercings and this can vary from person to person. Colds, poor diet, lousy rest and poor aftercare can slow this process down markedly.
Light heals occur within a couple of weeks but this doesn't mean you can go jamming garbage jewellery into your new piercing. The delicate new tissue needs time to toughen up and become seasoned. This takes time. If you want a great looking, health piercing, just hurry up and wait. When the piercing starts to ease off on discharging the whitish yellow discharge and redness has eased and disappeared then you can consider changing the jewellery.
If you are in a big rush talk with your professional body piercer and get his/her opinion, but don't rush your piercings healing time. It takes the time it needs, if you rush you will do nothing but irritate what could have been a good looking piercing.
you should wait two weeks before changing it heals in 6 to 8 weeks
Lip piercings must be kept in for 6 weeks before changing the jewelry. This gives the piercing enough time to become stable enough to change the jewelry with minimal irritation.
loads of people say 6-8 weeks but you can change it after 2 weeks as long as you know its healed properly

He was 13 when he got his lip pierced =]
You'll be in the room for about 10 minutes overall, but the piercing itself only takes around 15 seconds from when the clamps go on to when the jewelry is through your lip.

Different people's bodies react differently, but yes, your lip can swell after getting it pierced.
A pierced lip, there is no meaning, just a pierced lip. Body piercing, no matter where it is, is self expression. You either pierce yourself for show, maybe it means something to you.
yeah I think you can get your lip pierced at 15 in Indiana
you have to wait 2 hours before you eat anything if you have your lip pierced.
When I got my lip pierced, they already had the jewelry with them, because they have to use a special, longer stud to accomodate swelling. Perhaps if you brought you're own ball(s), they would screw those onto the stud instead of the regular ones.
Lip or labret ( including Monroe) piercings, as you probably already know, are initially pierced with a stud that is just a smidge longer than you will need long term. This is to allow extra room for the expected swelling that occurs during the first 3 days. So, while the lip is swollen, it's usually a perfect fit. As soon as the swelling goes down, the labret stud should be changed to a shorter one. We usually use a 3/8 inch stud to pierce with, and change it to a 5/16 after the swelling subsides. It is best if you are pierced with internally threaded jewelry, so the piercer, or yourself, can use the threaded end of a taper pin to assist in easily swapping out the 2 pieces without losing connection. If you have problems changing your jewelry yourself, you can buy a piercing widget from a company called www.changemypiercing.com. A piercing widget is a three piece tool used to insert jewelry, or change jewelry, and works with 14 gauge internally threaded jewelry.
