Marking system
In the Latvian education there are 10 grades. 10 is the best grade. Grades from 1-3 are mostly insufficient for passing subjects at school. Recently the examination system in Latvia adapted the A level system for final exam results in the year 12.
Year system
The full school education system requires 12 years. Mandatory are just 9 to gain access to college. After year 12 the graduate gains access to University education. Children in Latvia start school at age of 7 and usually finish when they are 19.
