Answer 1
Iceland does not maintain a standing army. The Icelandic Crisis Response Unit is a civil paramilitary organization typically kept at 30 members, and which may be expanded up to 200 members.
Answer 2
Iceland's main defence is the Icelandic coastguard, which also trains and organises other defence branches including the Air Defence Unit and the Icelandic Crisis Response Unit as mentioned above.
Icelandic coast guards are trained by the Norwegian military in Norway, as part of an agreement in their alliance with each other.
Iceland has recently completed training a new generation of special forces, called Víkingasveitin, which specialise in new techniques of eliminating terrorists. The Víkingasveitin special forces are regularly deployed to assist the British, Norwegian and Dutch (and sometimes American) forces in Afghanistan.
Iceland also trains bomb disposal experts which have been used by the Allies in Iraq and Afghanistan and they also contribute very heavily financially towards NATO.
Although Iceland does not have a specific army, their coastguard and special forces still pack quite a bit of firepower and can easily hold off invaders until allied (NATO) help arrives. Iceland is also very close allies with Britain, Norway and the Netherlands, who will come to the aid of Iceland should they be invaded.
