Battlefield casualties (or Body bag Counts) are notoriously inaccurate, often flawed, sometimes falsified, sometimes classified, routinely inflated, frequently unreported and most often hidden away in some archive for decades. Today such figures are routinely reported because they are difficult to conceal from the free press. In wars where decent battlefield medicine was practiced, wounded may as well be counted as dead.
Waterloo was a major loss of troop strength for Napoleon and France with as many as 25,000 killed or wounded, 8,000 captured and 15,000 listed as missing. Missing at that time probably included a 50% straggler count, a 40% desertion number, and perhaps a 10% figure for killed, body not recovered.
Wellington and Gebhard von Blucher fared better with only 22,000 reported as dead or wounded.
Casualties are 15 000 for the British with another 7 000 Prussians. The French lose about 25 000 with another 8 000 prisoners. Thre French have 220 guns captured ! Nearly 200 000 men on a single day on a single battlefield, with close to 50 000 casualties. Oh....
