I usually have trouble getting enough at restaurants and get so frustrated I eventually take the cap off the shaker. At home if you find you can't get enough, try balancing it with white pepper.

Black pepper is the whole peppercorn and white pepper is the peppercorn with the shell removed. Black pepper has a black outer shell that has a strong flavor while white pepper is milder in flavor. Use white pepper in dishes such as white sauce where color makes a difference in presentation. Darker dishes will use the black pepper.

Pepper does not melt ice. Pepper is regarded as hot due to its spicy sensation in your mouth when consumed, but it does not have any real heat to it. If you put enough black pepper on ice in sunlight the black pepper will absorb the heat from the sun and may transfer that heat to the ice causing it to melt.
