According to public statistics, aerospace engineers working for the U.S. federal government in 2002 made an average of $80K a year. That would include your NASA rocket scientists. Like any civilian company, it varies with the job they hold. NASA employs managers, engineers, research scientists, administrative staff and everything else right down to security guards and janitors (though some of these are subcontracted out). All in all they pay competitive wages and have good benefits.
