For what kind of occasion? And what kind of soup?! Let's say that the average person will consume 2 cups of soup if they're extremely hungry and the soup is somewhat hearty. 2 cups for a female, 2.5 for males, to average it out even more. What is the group? Males or Females? Then times 2 or 2.5 by the number of males and females, respectively, and add them together to find out how much soup is needed!

If you are using a recipe you need to see how many the recipe can serve as is. It will usually say how many it can serve.

A number of available recipes on the web using a whole chicken will feed eight people.

So for 20 people you will need 2 1/2 whole chickens and multiple each element of the recipe you choose by 2.5

This will make per person servings of between 1 1/2 and 2 cups. (leftovers are not a bad thing.) for twenty people you will need a cooking vessel between 30 and 40 cups.

Cooking vessels are usually measured in quarts so you will need an 8 - 10 quart pot to cook everything at one time.

well, if you're making about 1/4 COOKED for each person, you'll need 5 cups COOKED, which would be about 2 1/2 cups UNCOOKED.

1 portion = 8 fl. oz. (236 ml)

20 portions = 160 fl. oz. (4.72 L)

Extra must be made to account for evaporation.
