All military submarines dive into deep water. The deeper they can cruise, the harder they are to find. I call 'deep' any more than 120 feet down, but most modern military submarines can operate as deep as 900 feet, many even to 1500 and possibly more.

There are now many civilian submarines (shallow divers) which show tourists the undersea reefs and fish life. These generally operate between 30 and 90 feet down and I doubt that any could safely dive deeper than 200 feet at most.

They really do not need to take shelter from much except humans. For this they just dive deep into the water.

Why does the strength of a submarine hull have to be stronger than the hull of a ship?

because if a submarine goes under water to deep levels, it needs to hold against the air pressure. Yes the person said above.. They have to have a MUCH higher ability to withstand the pressure of the water pushing in against the hull of it.

Is 120 feet too deep for a human to dive?

No, the recreational dive limit is 130 feet. However, with the right breathing equipment and suit, much greater depths can be achieved.

Why does your ears hurt when you dive deep under water?

This happens because the pressure in the water is much greater than the pressure inside your ear, so the air presses onto the cartilage flaps on the inside of your ear, and then, that's why it starts to hurt.

Do dolphins dive?

Nope, they don't have gills like fish to breathe under water. They have to come up for air every once in while, because they have lungs much like humans and every other mammal. Unlike humans though, they actually have to think about breathing, they don't just do it automatically. No, they are mammals and have a blowhole on their head so that when they go to the surface, they get a breath of air.

Why do submarine not sink?

As with all boats, a submarine does not weigh as much as the amount of water it displaces. To go under the water's surface, it pumps water into special tanks (ballast tanks), and to rise up again those pumps force the water out of the ballast tanks and back into the sea.Ans 2 - Submarines can go deep and rise again by using water ballast and air pressure, as planned by the captain. -Unfortunately, when things go wrong, submarines DO sink.

How fast can a diver ascend from a deep dive?

Depends how deep they are, how much oxygen they have, how long they've been under & if you want to spend hours in a decompression chamber to reduce the nitrogen count.

What records your diving experience?

We have what is called a Log book where we put stuff like Dive #, date, temperature of water, visibility, how much weight you had on. How much air you had in you r tank and how much you ended with. some let you leave comments on it about your dive. They have your exposure protection (what you wore) and dive conditions ( was it fresh/salt water, boat/shore etc...)Addition:Using a dive computer with logging capabilities makes it possible to record much more detailed and accurate information when used in conjunction with PC based logging software that is available for most such dive computers.

How do sea lions breathe under water?

They don't breathe under water, certainly not like fish do. When they dive they hold their breath, just like whales and dolphins do when they dive. They close their nostrils as they dive to prevent water from coming into their lungs, just as whales/dolphins close their blow-holes before they dive or submerge themselves in the water.
